Hustle for Hunger Returns: One Student's Vision, 15,200 Meals, and a Community That Showed Up

At the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center, we know that hunger doesn't take a day off. And thanks to the incredible people of Chesterfield, neither do we. On May 3rd, the second annual Midlo Hustle for Hunger took place at Midlothian High School, and the results were nothing short of inspiring. Runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters came together to help provide 15,200 meals to local families facing food insecurity.

Once again, this event was the vision of one remarkable young woman.

From a Classroom Idea to Community Action

Saylor Narron, a Midlothian High School IB student, organized the Midlo Hustle for Hunger as her legacy capstone project, and she brought it back even stronger for its second year. What began as a personal commitment to give back has grown into something truly special for Chesterfield. This fall, Saylor will head to the University of Virginia to study Economics and Political Science, and we are confident she will carry this same spirit of service with her.

Saylor's dedication is a reminder that change starts with one person who decides to act. We could not be more proud to have her as a partner in the fight against hunger.

The Sponsors Who Made It Possible

Events like the Midlo Hustle for Hunger don't happen without the generosity of community partners who believe in our mission.

We are deeply grateful to the following sponsors for their commitment to feeding our neighbors:

  • Sumser Insurance

  • Eerie Insurance

  • Dana Miller

  • Triple Crossing

Each of these partners represents more than a financial contribution - they represent a shared belief that no family in Chesterfield should go without food.

The Team Behind the Scenes

A race of this scale takes a village, and we are so thankful to the individuals who helped make race day a success.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Steele, Midlothian High School Athletic Director, for his support and leadership in making the event possible on campus. To Mr. Jones, IB Advisor at Midlothian High School, thank you for guiding Saylor through every step of this project. And to Dr. Abel, Midlothian High School Principal, your encouragement of student-led community initiatives is making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors.

We also extend our gratitude to Commonwealth Timing for their expertise in race coordination, and to the Chesterfield County Police Aids for ensuring a safe and smooth event for every participant. Your professionalism and community spirit shine through in everything you do.

Every Step Counts

In Chesterfield, more than 35,000 residents, including over 10,000 children, face food insecurity. That is 1 in 9 of our neighbors. Events like the Midlo Hustle for Hunger remind us that when our community laces up and shows up, lives change.

"We are so inspired by Saylor's leadership and the outpouring of support from our community," said Kim Hill, Executive Director, Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center. "Every meal made possible through this event represents a family that can sit down and share food together. That is the power of community, and we are grateful for every single person who played a part."

Whether you ran the 5K, cheered from the sidelines, or donated from home, you are part of something that matters.

Keep the Momentum Going

The Midlo Hustle for Hunger is proof that one idea, one person, and one community can accomplish extraordinary things together. We are so grateful to Saylor, our sponsors, our volunteers, and every participant who made this event a success.
