Giving Tuesday: Simple Ways to Make a Holiday Impact in Chesterfield

The holiday season is a time for giving, and Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in Chesterfield. As the Executive Director of the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center (CFBOC), I frequently answer questions about how people can support our mission to fight hunger and empower lives. In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, let us look at some of the most common ways your participation directly supports Operation Holiday Hundred, our signature holiday campaign.
What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to do good. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it serves as a purposeful counterbalance to the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The primary goal is to inspire charitable action through volunteer work, advocacy, and financial contributions to nonprofits such as CFBOC.
Why is Giving Tuesday Important?
At CFBOC, we rely on the generosity and ongoing support of individuals and businesses to achieve our mission. Giving Tuesday provides a dedicated day for community-focused philanthropy, creating a significant impact on our fight against hunger and its underlying causes. The influx of volunteers, donations, and awareness generated on this day helps sustain our programs and allows us to care for even more people in need across Chesterfield.
This year, Giving Tuesday falls right in the heart of Operation Holiday Hundred, our annual community-driven campaign. Your support directly fuels this effort, helping us provide thousands of meals to families who might otherwise go without during the holidays.
How Can I Get Involved?
There are several meaningful ways you can support CFBOC this Giving Tuesday:
Make a financial contribution: Financial donations from individuals and businesses allow us to purchase nutritious food, upgrade our facilities, and develop new initiatives to address food insecurity. Every dollar makes a difference. In fact, every dollar donated creates four meals. You can donate securely on our website or contact us to arrange a corporate gift.
Volunteer your time: Our work would not be possible without the commitment of our dedicated volunteers. We offer opportunities for individuals, families, and groups of all sizes to help sort donations or assist with various daily operations.
Host or join a food drive: Rally your colleagues, neighbors, school, or community group to collect nonperishable items using our ready-made flyers. Supporters can also give online. Bring collected items to CFBOC at 12211 Iron Bridge Road in Chester, Virginia, or use our orange bins for after-hours drop-offs. Be sure to register your food drive online.
Spread the word: Help us raise awareness by sharing our social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, telling your friends about our work, or writing about the importance of fighting hunger locally.
What Impact Will My Contribution Have?
Your support translates directly into tangible results for neighbors facing food insecurity. Last year, with the help of our community, CFBOC achieved the following milestones:
Distributed over 2.6 million pounds of food to neighbors in need.
Assisted more than 50,000 households through outreach programs and partnership assistance.
This Giving Tuesday, you have the power to build on these achievements. Through Operation Holiday Hundred, we aim to create a ripple effect of kindness throughout our community and ensure that no one in Chesterfield has to face hunger alone.
