At the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center, we believe that when a community comes together with purpose, powerful things happen. The inaugural Hustle for Hunger is proof of that. Thanks to the passion and dedication of our neighbors, volunteers, and sponsors, this student-led event raised over $6,400, helping provide 25,600 meals to local families facing food insecurity.
This event began with the idea of one Midlothian High School student — Saylor Narron, She saw an opportunity to give back in a meaningful way and ran with it.
"I've always wanted to plan an event that gives back to the community, and the Chesterfield Food Bank has always been a great local organization to support. When it came time to choose my IB CAS Project, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to bring this idea to life. Hosting a community fun run not only raises awareness and donations for the Food Bank but also brings people together for a meaningful cause,"Â Saylor shared.
We’re proud to see young leaders like Saylor stepping up to fight hunger and empower lives—and equally grateful to those who helped her vision come to life. A heartfelt thank-you to Stuart Jones, IB Advisor and teacher at Midlothian High School; Dr. Sean Abel, Midlothian High School Principal; and the Midlothian High School PTO for their support and encouragement every step of the way. Reid Sowder and Commonwealth Timing provided the guidance and coordination needed to ensure the race ran smoothly. And we’re so thankful for every participant, volunteer, and supporter who made this first race so special.
