Chesterfield, Virginia - October 15, 2024—This holiday season, the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center (CFBOC) is launching its most ambitious food drive yet—the 150K lb Challenge. With a goal of distributing 150,000 pounds of food to families and individuals facing food insecurity, CFBOC is calling on the community to join in this critical effort to fight hunger across Chesterfield County.
“As we navigate the headwinds of a post-COVID economy, the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center remains a steadfast source of comfort and support for over 5,000 households each month and that number continues to rise,” said Kim Hill, Executive Director of CFBOC. “These families and individuals, often facing temporary challenges, turn to us for emergency food assistance.”
The need for food assistance has surged in Chesterfield County, and CFBOC is stepping up to meet that demand. The 150K lb Challenge aims to provide critical relief, ensuring that no family goes hungry during the holiday season. In 2023 alone, CFBOC distributed over 2.7 million pounds of food to the community, but the need continues to grow. The 150K lb Challenge is a direct response to this rising demand, with the goal of not just meeting but exceeding the 150,000-pound target.
Community support is essential to reaching the 150K lb goal. CFBOC is asking individuals, businesses, and organizations to help in three key ways:
Donate: Monetary donations enable CFBOC to purchase and distribute food to those who need it most.
Volunteer: Volunteers play a vital role in packing and distributing food.
Spread the Word: Raising awareness is critical to engaging more people in the fight against hunger.
As CFBOC strives to meet the increasing demand for food assistance in Chesterfield County, the organization is asking for individual and corporate support for this program and its mission in general during the 150K lb Food Drive Challenge in October.
